Im a fan of sourcing things locally, I shop at farmers market’s to get stuff as local as possible. I believe in doing this because of the Econemy, our country’s community and the impact we have on the enviroment. I simply see no point in having a potato from Spain when it can come from down the road!
Despite farmers markets, they are not local enough or regular enough to stock my fridge every week, so I still rely on Supermarkets.
My ones of choice are Waitrose and Marks and Spencers. Waitrose tend to buy from alot of the people selling at the farmers markets, this is often meat and drink products, they are rather poor on the vegetable side though with alot of my stuff coming from overseas. Well god bless marks and spencers, today I got beef, potatos, spring onions, red, orange and yellow peppers and spinach. ALL of it is from the UK.
After reading my friends post about Poppets this morning I figured I should write about my snack of the day.
Today it is unsalted Pistachio nuts. I love them, I could eat them all day if the shells didnt start to hurt my fingers. I also enjoy Salted ones but of course too much salt is bad for you.
Theres not much I thank America for (certainly not Mc Donalds) but I must thank them for exporting Pistachios.
I left my lunch at home today, honest! So in frustration I headed over to burger king and was presented with an “Angry Whopper Meal”, now I love a Whopper with cheese so thought I would try it out.
It’s essentially a Whopper with cheese but with peppers, onion strips and I think, a spicy tomato sauce. It’s quite nice and I love the onion strips but it felt a bit off balance when you got a mouth full of spicy ketchup cooled down by the mayonaise on it.
Overall, I still prefer a Whopper on it’s own and would love to see one with the Onion strips!
A while ago while staying with a friend, I got fed some very lovely Meatballs in tomato sauce with a tad of chilli. But the thing about these meatballs is they were not meat, they were Quorn.
Quorn is an ingredient that they extract and process from a Fungi, it is often used to immitate meat and is very low in fat.
I really enjoyed the meal Anna cooked for me and have since come up with my own bolognaise recipe using Quorn mince. I gave this recipe to a friend who now loves Quorn.
Another friend, is now considering using Quorn instead of meat for a few months to loose weight.
And Quorn “beef” burgers are bloody delicious (char grilled).
While on holiday in Weymouth we went to the highly recommended Crab House Cafe, serving fresh seafood they caught that day! It was a lovely cafe, nice décor all looked great until this chef started cooking. We’ve all watched Kitchen Nightmares where Gordon shows up people pretending to be excellent chefs, well this chef was one of them. All the food was ruined by crap piled on the plate, bad sauces and by baking every single thing, although the chips were nice!
I can’t say I would recommend the Crab House to anyone, except the producers of Kitchen Nightmares, the place could be a great Loves Fish Restaurant, especially with seafood so fresh.
